I'm no fan of Wil's, but don't be surprised if he has a solid year. He's only 29. As far as I know, he has no injuries. He's a lifetime .277 hitter, even after last year's .250. He's in the final year of his deal. I suspect he was distracted last year due to who know's what going on in his personal life - as I recall, at one point he disappeared for a few days, with no explanation. If he were to put together a .280, 25 doubles, 15 HR year while playing first, left, or DH, it would be very big for this team.

But why does Wil care? It seems like he lucked into his contract and just doesn't care about anything but himself...it seems that way...I'm not saying that's the way it is.

You don't know this - no one does. You might be right. One hopes that Cordero is as pissed with himself as most of us are with him.

Think about it Alex. This is the last year of his contract. That's why he should care. If Wil continues to perform the way he has the last 2 years, the only offer he'll get is a minor league deal.

If Wil bounces back (I personally think he's washed), and hits 290 with 30+ doubles and 15+ homers, he'll probably be able to get a 2 year deal at about 2 million per. That's what's riding on this season for him.

If it his problem were just a matter of not hitting for average, I might believe he has a chance to get it back. But the fact that even when he gets ahold of one, he can't reach the fence, means he's lost his bat speed. This is precisely what happened to Baerga.

I guess what I'm asking is....doesn't it seem like Wil would rather be elsewhere than playing baseball?

Crank, I do know what I think. All I said was it SEEMS like he doesn't care about anything but himself.

    I hope I'm wrong.

I hope Wil is totally selfish and self centered. Guys like that seem to do well in the final year of their contracts (Barry Bonds springs to mind). It would be great if Wil got off to a hot start and we were able to unload him.

Actually last year end of April, he was hitting over .340 and I posted on the CLive forum that now is the time to trade him, while his numbers are over-inflated. Man did I get my head handed to me by a number of posters. They thought I was crazy to want to trade a .340 hitter from a team that would be in the thick of things by September.

If Cordero jumps off to a good start and stays hot, if there are any takers - get what you can.

Typical. Why would you het rid of a player that gets off to a hot start and contributes heavily to winning games? It seems to me that all anybody here wants is a constant stream of trades that eventually would degrade to entire organization. At some point the Indians need to identify great or good players and pay them, not constantly look to unload expensive ones for unproven talent.

Geez! Let's see now...Had they did what I proposed and traded him for a prospect, despite his hot bat, where would they have finished? Hmmmm! Oh yeah, since he didn't contribut from May on, I guess we would probably have finished in 1st place.

Now where would we have been at this point? Let's see.....Ah, oh yeah! 3.5 million dollars less on the payroll with a prospect that might be competing for a job.

So what part of this don't you get?
